Vice mayor, village chieftain wounded in raid

Chief Editor October 17, 2016

COTABATO CITY – Unidentified gunmen opened fire on a house and killing a bodyguard of a municipal vice mayor who was also wounded in the attack, police said on Monday.

Police said the house owner, Melchor Tagle, who is also a village chieftain of Kangkong in Sultan Kudarat’s Esperanza town was also injured in the strafing late Sunday. The attack killed Harold Kalon, one of Vice Mayor Samsudin Sangki’s bodyguards.

The 66-year old Sangki was visiting Tagle when gunmen arrived and strafed the house without warning and immediately escaped after the daring raid. Both politicians were rushed to hospital.

Police said the motive of the attack is still unknown and that an investigation has been launched to determine the identities of the raiders. The victims’ families did not give any statement to the press. (Mindanao Examiner)
