SULU – The provincial government has released financial assistance on Sunday for the victims of twin explosions in the town of Jolo that injured a dozen policemen and 6 civilians.
Governor Totoh Tan ordered the immediate release of the funds through Vice Governor Sakur Tan and distributed to the families of the victims by the Sulu Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
The explosions occurred late Friday outside a mosque in a police base that authorities blamed the Abu Sayyaf. Police said a grenade exploded and wounded the civilians, three of them minors; and was followed by another blast from an improvised explosive when policemen arrived at the scene to help the injured.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the twin explosions, but previous attacks in the province were also blamed to the notorious rebel group which is being linked by authorities to the al-Qaeda, Jemaah Islamiya and ISIS. (Mindanao Examiner)
