PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Nov. 3, 2013) – Gunmen riding tandem on a motorcycle shot and wounded a village chieftain in a broad daylight attack Sunday in Pagadian City in the southern Filipino province of Zamboanga del Sur, police said.

Police said the victim, Abdul Racman Talumpay, 48, village chieftain of Dalapang in Labangan town, was shot near Agora Market along Pajares Avenue in Santa Lucia District. Talumpay was heading to the market to buy dried fish when one of two gunmen shot him with a .45-caliber pistol.

The gunmen escaped after the attack. Talumpay was rushed to the hospital with a gunshot wound in the neck.

The motive of the failed assassination is still unknown, but police launched an investigation into the attack and who were behind it.

Talumpay’s family did not give any statement to the media about the shooting or whether it was connected to politics or family feud.

Gun attacks perpetrated by motorcycle gunmen are almost a daily occurrence in Pagadian City, where hired killers are actively operating. Many of the shooting incidents here are unresolved. (Mindanao Examiner)
