ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Sept. 6, 2013) – A woman, who was previously threatened with death by an alleged policeman over her unpaid debts, was fatally shot by a suspected hired killer in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, police said Friday.
Police said Mary Jane Peras, 34, was killed in Recodo village after being shot at least 5 times in the different parts of her body.
The gunman escaped after the shooting, according to Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, a regional police spokesman. He said the killer has been identified and is being hunted down by policemen.
Authorities are also investigating whether the policeman who threatened to kill Peras was involved in the murder.
Gun attacks are not uncommon in Zamboanga where hired killers are actively operating. Hundreds had been shot and killed in previous years by hired killers and many of the cases remain unresolved. (Mindanao Examiner)
