ZAMBOANGA CITY – A mother of three was brutally killed after she resisted a neighbor who tried to rape her inside their house in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, police said Tuesday.
Police said the 25-year old mother, Jenny Rose Apolinario, was stabbed 60 times by Arjon Alvarez, 27, in the village of Cabaluay. It said the attack occurred before dawn of December 15 after Alvarez sneaked into the woman’s house and tried to abuse her.
The woman was with her three children when the incident occurred, according to Insp. Dahlan Samuddin, a regional police spokesman.
He said Alvarez fled after stabbing the woman. Her children were unhurt from the violent attack. “Initial investigation conducted by Police station 3 in Sangali village disclosed that the victim and her three children were already asleep inside their house when the suspect barged into their room and tried to rape her.”
“However, the victim struggled with the suspect who was identified as Arjon Alvarez, their neighbor, and as the scuffle went on, the suspect grabbed a knife and stabbed her 60 times in her chest and stomach, and fled after the incident,” Samuddin said.
Samuddin said the victim was rushed to the hospital where she later died.
“She was immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention, but the victim expired while undergoing medical treatment,” he said. (Mindanao Examiner)
