
ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 4, 2014) – An unidentified gunman fatally shot a young businessman in an attack Friday in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, police said.
Police said the gunman attacked Rey Angelo Tan, who owns a motorcycle spare parts shop near San Bernardino Bridge in the village of Guiwan. Tan, 24, died in the hospital where doctors tried, but failed to save his life.
Tan, who was sitting in front of his store, had been shot four times and police investigators recovered bullet casings of 9mm pistol from the area. The assailant fled on foot towards Cabato Road after the shooting.
No individual claimed responsibility for the shooting and police have launched an investigation into the attack to determine the motive of the killing.
The gunman fled after shooting and was believed picked up by an accomplice who was on a motorbike.
Gun attacks are not uncommon in Zamboanga City where hired killers are actively operating. (With a report from Ely Dumaboc)
