Photos released by the Philippine Army’s 28th Infantry Battalion to the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner show the recently concluded four-day Youth Leadership Summit in Davao Oriental’s Banaybanay town.

DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Sept. 27, 2012) – Some 187 young leaders from 14 villages of Davao Oriental’s Banaybanay have joined the four-day Youth Leadership Summit organized by the Philippine Army in an effort to win peace in the southern province.

With the theme “Barug Kabataan, Makighiusa para sa Kalinaw og Kalambuan,” the summit was supported by the provincial and municipal governments, the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation, and participated by various government agencies, civic and religious groups.

Lt. Col. Francisco Lorenzo, Jr., the battalion commander, said other graduates of the YLS, who are now members of Youth for Peace from municipalities of San Isidro and Lupon, acted as mentors to the summit.

The YLS is a character-based leadership for the youth that aims to inculcate the virtues of patriotism, awareness against drug addiction, threat situation and deeper environmental concerns.

The summit was also filled with team building activities, physical fitness, spiritual nourishment, pro-environment activities and highlighted with their evening socials.
