ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / May 8, 2012) – One person was killed and two others wounded in an explosion at a house on a seaside village in the southern Philippine port city of Zamboanga, officials said.
Officials said the blast killed a man identified only as Fahad and wounded his companions Benhar and Alji in the village called Baliwasan.
“Authorities are still investigating the blast that killed one man and wounded two more,” Colonel Buenaventura Pascual, commander of an army anti-terror task force, told the Mindanao Examiner.
He said the blast occurred at around 5.30 p.m. on Monday. The house, he said, is owned by a policeman Nurul Samali, who is stationed in the province of Sulu.
It was not immediately known whether the explosion was caused by a bomb or an improvised explosive device.
Just last week, government troops recovered two 81mm mortar bombs left on a roadside in the village of Cabatangan. (Mindanao Examiner)
