PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / June 29, 2014) – Police arrested the prime suspect in the killing of a cop in Margosatubig town in Zamboanga del Sur province in southern Philippines, officials said Sunday.
Senior Superintendent Sofroncio Ecaldre, the provincial police chief, said Honey Alibasa was arrested along with Ramos Montaner in the town following an operation launched by the police. Alibasa also shot and wounded four people and killed PO1 Ryan Ponce on Saturday. It was not immediately known what was Montaner’s participation in the attack.
Officials said Alibasa walked into a hospital and grabbed the pistol of the security guard Roland Emaya and then shot him at close range before barging in the nearby house of Ponce and killed him. Alibasa also shot and wounded Ponce’s father Leopoldo and Ruby Cantarona. He also shot and wounded SPO3 Julius Arnoco while fleeing from his murderous rampage.
Officials said an investigation has been launched to determine the motive of the attack, but an initial police report said it could connected to the killing of Alibasa’s father more than a decade ago by members of the town’s police force. (Jong Cadion and Ely Dumaboc)
