
ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 18, 2013) – Some 2,000 people have joined the Fun Run 2013 in Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines as part of fund raising campaign for the benefit of cancer patients.
The fun run was sponsored by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation and was also participated by the Army’s 55th Engineer Brigade under Colonel Vicente Yordan.
Lieutenant Colonel Alfonso Enriquez, of the 55th Engineer Brigade, said the simultaneous the event was composed of three to eighteen kilometer-run categories for children and adults respectively.
He said some 2,000 runners from government and non-government agencies, including students and civilian, participated in the fun run.
“The thirst and exhaustion after the run were quenched by the objective of the activity which aims to raise funds for the benefit of patients afflicted with cancer through the Philippine Children’s Medical Center Ward in Quezon City as the national beneficiary, and the Paediatric Oncology Unit of Zamboanga City Medical Center as local beneficiary,” Enriquez told the Mindanao Examiner.
“Your Philippine Army will continue to build partnership with other stakeholders through cause-oriented activities to maintain the brand new image of the Army in winning the peace, particularly in Mindanao,” he added.
