ZAMBOANGA CITY HOSTED the “Dagyaw 2019” which was attended by hundreds of participants and senior Cabinet members as part of President Rodrigo Duterte’s “Open Government and Participatory Governance Regional Dialogues.”
The recent event encouraged participation in dialogues among government agencies, the public, and other stakeholders.
The word Dagyaw is a Hiligaynon term for “Bayanihan,” which exemplifies the concept of “togetherness.” It is envisioned to be one of the main government campaigns that will provide avenues for productive, valuable, sincere, and visible engagement between government and the people at the local level.
As a platform for engagement and convergence, each regional dialogue will focus on area-specific topics to address the issues and problems experienced in the locality.
The Dagyaw dialogues will also serve as a mechanism for citizen engagement in programs related to frontline service delivery such as health, education, housing, electricity, and infrastructure, as well as anti-corruption efforts of the government.
Speaking to the huge crowd, Mayor Beng Climaco has reiterated her strong and all-out support to the Duterte administration and its efforts in building a strong economy and promote peace and development. Discussed during the event were issues employment, health and security.
“The conduct of the dialogue is a testament to President Duterte’s genuine concern for the people. His passion for local governance stems from his 22 years of experience as local chief executive. That is why we have personally seen him having a very good charisma with the people but it is translated to immediate and active action agad service to the people. That is why we are given opportunity to touch base with national government officials,” Climaco said.
Climaco was well praised during the event for her governance and dedication to public service. Among those who attended the event was Cabinet Secretary Karlo Alexei Nograles and other national and regional government officials and among them were Presidential Communications Operations Office Undersecretary Marvin Gatpayat and Ramon Cualoping III; Undersecretary Herman Jumilla of Department of Budget and Management; Assistant Secretary Florida Dijan of the Department of the Interior and Local Government; Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 9 Director Ofelia Domingo; Deputy Director General Damian Carlos of the National Security Council; Department of Health Region 9 Director Emilia Monicimpo and Department of Budget and Management Region 9 Director Ricky Sanchez.
