Zambo police chiefs sacked over NPA raid

PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Apr. 10, 2012) – Two senior Philippine police officials were sacked from their posts a day after communist rebels raided a police headquarters in the southern province of Zamboanga del Sur.

Dozens of New People’s Army rebel stormed the police headquarters in Tigbao town late Monday and carted assorted weapons before fleeing with a police captive they used as shield.

Philippine police chief Nicanor Bartolome ordered has relieved Senior Superintendent Jose Bayani Gucela, the provincial police chief; and Senior Inspector Heines Legaspi, the police chief of Tigbao town.

The two police officials did not give any statement and Bartolome did not say whether administrative charges would be filed against Gucela and Legaspi. (Mindanao Examiner)
