
PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Sept. 24, 2013) – A village chieftain was attacked and killed by motorcycle gunmen in the southern Philippine province of Zamboanga del Sur, police said on Tuesday.
It said Isidro Oranda, 56, village chieftain of New Basak in Dumingag town, was relieving himself outside a house in the village of San Pablo when gunmen shot him twice. The assailants escaped after the shooting.
Oranda was rushed to the hospital, but died along the way. Police said the victim just attended a wake in the village and it was not immediately known whether the murder was politically motivated or not.
Police are still investigating the killing which occurred ahead of village elections this year. (Mindanao Examiner)
