PAGADIAN CITY – A radio broadcaster was murdered late Tuesday in the southern Filipino province of Zamboanga del Sur, the media watchdog National Union of Journalists of the Philippines reported.
It said Elvis Ordaniza, who was in his 50s, was killed inside his house in the town of Pitogo.
NUJP, quoting police reports, said Ordaniza – who worked for radio station dxWO – was shot twice in the chest with a .45-caliber pistol.
It said the broadcaster had been reporting in his program issues about illegal drugs and illegal gambling in Pitogo town.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the killing, but police have launched an investigation into the murder to determine its motive and the identity of the assailant or its mastermind.
Dozens of journalists had been killed in line of duty in the past decade and many of these cases remain unsolved and their murderers still at large. (Mindanao Examiner)
