ZAMBOANGA CITY’s Santa Cruz Island famous from its powdery pink sand has been chosen by the Department of Tourism (DOT) in Western Mindanao as the benchmark for good eco-tourism management for Zamboanga Peninsula tourism officers and local government officials.
DOT has recently commissioned a tour on the island for dozens of participants to the two-day Tourism Awareness Training here and they were so impressed by the cleanliness and pristine beauty of the Santa Cruz Island that it has been chosen unanimously to be the benchmark for excellent ecological and tourism management by the local government of Zamboanga.

The tour was facilitated by the Protected Area Management Office (PAMO) under the Office of the City Mayor. It showcased the island’s management program, including the strict implementation of environmental policies and the participation of the community in preserving the ecology there and the benefit it derives from the tourism industry.
Santa Cruz is a favorite destination by local and foreign tourists. Various influential personalities also cited the good practices in managing the island and these include Canadian Kyle Jennermann, of Becoming Filipino vlog; Filipino-French Chef and Content Creator Erwan Heussaff, and philanthropist and environmentalist Gina Lopez. Santa Cruz Island was also named by the National Geographic Society as one of the 21 best beaches in the world. (Zamboanga Post)
