Zamboanga City Government News Bits – April 28, 2015
- The Barangay Disaster Preparedness Summit culminated Tuesday with the last batch of 38 barangays participating in the half-day activity organized by the City Disaster Risk Reduction And Management Office at Centro Latino in Paseo del Mar. The summit covered discussions on fire safety and prevention, mitigating effects of storm surge, earthquakes/tsunami, landslide and orientation on the utilization of Barangay Disaster Management Funds.
- Maintenance personnel of the City Engineer’s Office started cleaning up since Monday the city’s main drainage systems and canals in the downtown area in preparation for the wet or rainy season. Some streets downtown such as Gov. Lim Avenue and Pilar St. were quickly flooded Monday afternoon following a brief but heavy downpour.
- The City Administrator’s Office Tuesday initiated a tour of the Integrated Bus Terminal (IBT) in Divisoria for representatives from the different bus companies to orient and acquaint them with the various facilities and amenities available at the IBT. The orientation included a rehearsal on egress and ingress as well as loading and unloading of passengers.
- The City Agriculturist Office has sought the temporary deferment of the cloud seeding operations in light of the frequent rains experienced in the city the past days. It is in close coordination with the PAGASA for weather updates. The request for cloud seeding operations is now pending with the Department of Agriculture in Manila.
- The Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) will continue to enforce its water rationing scheme as the City’s water stream is still not peaking at their usual normal levels despite the recent spate of rainfalls this month.Teddy Sarmiento, ZCWD Division Manager for Water Quality, explained the rainfalls provided small relief by raising water stream levels but the “spikes” were artificial and just as rapidly decreased in a matter of days.
- The Local Inter-Agency Committee on Tuesday started marathon meetings to finalize the IRR for the Code of Policies on the Criteria for Selection of Z3R beneficiaries before it is forwarded to the City Council for deliberation and approval.
- The Marine Battalion Landing Team (MBLT)-9 headed by its commanding officer Lt. Col. Enstein Calaoa Jr. replaces MBLT-1, as the military component in the new security concept implemented in the city and dubbed PUMA or Pulisya, Militar at Army.
