Zamboanga City Government News Bits – June 13, 2015

  • Mayor Beng Climaco during the 117th Philippine Independence Day celebration Friday exhorted Zamboanguenos to stay united “under one flag, one nation, one Zamboanga and never under the Bangsamoro” in the face of numerous challenges besetting the city. Addressing thousands of people representing all sectors during the Independence Day program in front of City Hall, the mayor also said public servants should set aside personal interests and political ambitions in tackling the various issues confronting the city. “How can we rally our people to unite in defending our City, if its leaders are divided? This challenge will go on, but this should not stop us from building back better.”
  • Four Softball players add to the list of gold medalists in the ongoing 28th SEA
    Games in Singapore- Sonny Boy Acuna, Rolando Binarao, Emerson Atilano and Vermond Diaz. Earlier list includes billiards player Chezka Centeno who harvested a gold medal in the Women’s singles 9-ball event and Eumir Felix Marcial who won a gold medal in the Boxing Welterweight Division. Zamboanga City is very proud of you!
  • The Zamboanga City Fire District has set a Fire Drill competition dubbed “Fire Olympics 2015” Saturday, June 15 at 8am at the Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School grounds in Sta. Maria with 6 industrial and Barangay Volunteer Fire Brigade teams to compete in the various fire drill events. The activity aims to promote camaraderie among fire volunteers in BFP and further enhance the skills and stamina of the volunteers. The winners will join in the Regional and National level contests in Manila.
  • The City Government has scheduled a Stakeholders’ Consultative Meeting on Monday, June 15 from 1-5pm at Centro Latino. Representatives from the DOE, NEA and ERC head offices have confirmed attendance in the meeting. The Business, Religious and academe sectors will be consulted from 3-5pm while the barangay captains and kagawads will be consulted from 1-3pm.
  • The observance of World Blood Donor on Sunday, June 14 will kick off with a thanksgiving mass at 7am at the Red Cross Youth Training center. The commemorative program will follow at 8am afterwhich the mobile blood donation will follow. The activity is organized by the City Blood Council in partnership with the Red Cross and the Department of Health.
  • The 8th day of the Information Caravan (3rd Wave) organized by the Communications Working Group with support of the USAID and The Asia Foundation will focus home-based IDPs (east coast cluster) at 9am Saturday, June 13, at the Centro Latino in Paseo del Mar. The last leg will be on Tuesday, June 16 covering the almost 200 IDPs housed at the Asinan, Kasanyangan transitory site. The Code of Policies on Z3R Beneficiary Selection and its IRR and other issues affecting the IDPs are the top agenda of the caravan.
  • Social preparation for IDPs set to return to their permanent houses is slated on Monday, June 15 starting at 7am at the Centro Latino 2nd floor. Representatives from the City Health Office, City Environment and Natural Resources Office, National Housing Authority, Zamcelco, Zamboanga City Water District and Housing Division will spearhead the activity.
