- Mayor Beng Climaco renews her call for barangay officials and residents to help monitor their respective area of responsibility and to immediately report suspicious activities and persons in their AOR for proper validation. The call was made during the barangay assembly of Sta. Catalina, March 21 where the Mayor stressed anew: “Security is everybody’s responsibility”.
- Due to increasing incidents of grass/bush fires, City Hall airs an urgent appeal to residents to avoid outdoor fires including slash and burn activities. The continuing dry spell which led to water and power shortages in the city, also requires residents to diligently practice fire safety and protection measures.
- City Fire Marshall Dominador Zabala Jr. reports a total of 29 grass/bush fire incidents in different barangays from Jan. 1 to March 22, 2015. On Saturday (March 21) alone, 4 separate incidents were reported in Culianan, Pasonanca, Tumaga and Tigbalabag and today, March 22 – two were reported in Sinunuc and Cabaluay. Causes are unattended bonfire and slash and burn or “kaingin” activities. Barangays with most number of bush fires are Salaan (4 incidents), Sta. Maria, Upper Calarian, Pasonanca and Tumaga.
- The campaign against unregistered pump boats jointly implemented by the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company and the City Agriculturist Office continues without let-up in line with the enforcement of Ordinance 2005-133 and as part of the ongoing effort to monitor and prevent criminal and illegal activities in coastal areas. From Sept. 2014 to March 10, 2015, the drive yielded 122 engines and 6 compressors. It has also led to voluntary registration of at least 1,480 pump boats during the period, according to Public Safety Company commander Supt. Ariel Huesca.
- The City Social Welfare and Development Office – People with Disability Unit and the DSWD – regional office will spearhead activities in line with the observance of 11th Women with Disabilities Day, Monday, March 23, pursuant to Proclamation 744 and DILG MC 23. Highlight of the activities will be a forum to assess the rights of women with disabilities set at Cecille’s catering in Tumaga at 9 a.m.
