Zamboanga City Government News Bits March 9, 2015
- Thousands of women including men joined the Dia de las Mujeres celebration Monday in recognition of women’s contribution to society. Mayor Beng Climaco thanked the military and police authorities for the smooth implementation of EO-102 as well as the public for cooperating with and supporting the security measures that were put in place during the conduct of the activities.
- Zamboanga City is very proud to have two of its sons in the Top 10 of the Sinaglahi PMA Class 2015: Top 2- Genesis Salvador Dizon of Sta. Maria and Top 8- Steven Tali of Lower Calarian. Carry on as the City’s ambassadors of peace!
- Mayor Beng Climaco has expressed dismay over OPAPP’s implementation of programs for “MILF communities” in the city sans coordination with the local government emphasizing that “there is no MILF community nor do we recognize one in the city”. This, as the OPAPP admitted that the Sajahatra Bangsamoro Program, a cash for work activity was implemented in some barangays without formally informing the city.
- City Health Officer Rodelin Agbulos today reported that incidence of dengue cases in the city continuously decrease and attributed the same to the dry season and public awareness on the control and prevention of the mosquito-borne disease.
- Plan International in partnership with the Integrated Resource Development for Tri-People launched recently the Girl Declaration Project aimed to promote youth-led advocacy that will work towards ensuring that girls are at the heart of the Post 2015 Development Framework. As a result of the activity, two young Zamboangueñas, who showed excellent performance, were chosen to represent the country for the International Girl Declaration Project, one to Korea in May 2015 and the other to New York, USA in September 2015. The project intends to develop leadership skills of young girls and give them a platform to amplify their voices by allowing them to design and implement a national advocacy plan for girls’ rights.
