Zamboanga City Government News Bits –May 3, 2015
- Orientation for the second batch of the Special Program for the Employment of Students, composed of 1,270 high school students is set on May 11 at 8 a.m. at the City Coliseum in the village of Tetuan. Work in the local government will begin the same day until the end of the month. The first batch consisting of 1,400 college students began employment with the local government April 10 and will end May 8. The program is jointly undertaken by the LGU and the Department of Labor and Employment under a 60-40 percent sharing agreement and covers a working period of 20 days with assignments in the villages and selected offices.
- The City Government’s Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Group together with the Local Council of Women the other day turned over to women groups, financial donations representing proceeds of the March 12 Dia de las Mujeres activity. The Parole and Probation received P15,000, the Women Breast Cancer Association got a total of P30,000 and the Women of Hope received P15,000. GAD is also set to turn over checks to other identified beneficiaries – the Ward 9 at the Zamboanga City medical Center, Women Crisis Center and the women inmates at the City Reformatory Center.
- Top officials from the UN Habitat are set to gather LGU officials and partners May 6-7 for the Planned City Extension (PCE) Workshop with support from the Achieving Sustainable Urban Development (ASUD) project. The activity is intended to orient the participants on the UN-Habitat’s strategy on sustainable urban development, highlight the planning principles and approaches of ASUD project particularly city extension planning and formulate the conceptual plan of Zamboanga City’s identified PCE and Planned City Infill sites.
- Mayor Beng Climaco has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to build back better Zamboanga, as she recently led the City Social Welfare and Development Office and other cluster heads in formally accepting the camp coordination and camp management duties and responsibilities from the Department of Social Welfare and development. She said the local government will exhaust all efforts to ensure the smooth implementation of the Zamboanga Roadmap to Recovery and Reconstruction (Z3R) plan. She expressed belief that the task of looking after the recovery and rehabilitation of the city and the affected families will be easy and manageable with the support of all agencies and partners.
- The 2015 Summer Festival activities continue with the Kite Flying competition slated on Saturday, May 9 starting at 9 a.m. at the Paseo del Mar. Valuable prizes are at stake for winners in the competition which will have two categories: flat and figure.
