Zamboanga City Government News Bits – May 7, 2015
- The Commission on Elections-Zamboanga City Office urges registered voters whose biometrics had not been captured to undergo validation on or before October 31, 2015 otherwise they will not be allowed to vote in the May 9, 2016 national and local elections. To maximize the validation process, the COMELEC has set schedules for off-site registration in both Districts 1 and 2 for the month of May. For District I the schedule is as follows: Talisayan – May 4,5 and 6; Baliwasan – May 10, 11 and 12; Canelar – May 17, 18 and 19; La Pa z- May 24, 25 and 26 and Tulungatung – May 31 and June 1. For District II, the schedule includes Tumalutab – May 7 and 8; Sangali – May 10-12; Licomo – May 17-19; Kasanyangan – May 24 and 25 and Vitali – May 31-June 2. There will be no office transactions during the conduct of off-site registration. - Local businesses and industries showcase their best products and wares for a trade exposition at Centro Latino on May 7-8. The two-day trade fair, dubbed China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) Promotional Conference and Trade Fair, is organized by the City Government through the Investment and Promotions Division and the Department of Trade and Industry in preparation for the City’s participation as the City of Charm in the global 12th CAEXPO Summit in China in September this year.
- CAEXPO Secretariat senior officials headed by Vice Secretary General Huang Pingxi and First Secretary Yang Wang of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China and their local counterpart from the Center for International Trade Expo Mission head Doris Gacho are in Zamboanga City on May 7-8 to facilitate in the finalization of the delegates and exhibitors to the 12th CAEXPO Summit in China.
- Zamcelco General Manager Engr. George Ledesma today explained that the prolonged blackouts in the city that lasted up to 9 hours since Wednesday is due to the shutdown of the 105mw unit Steag plant in Misamis Oriental. He said Zamcelco increases hours for TMI and Mapalad to supply from 10 p.m. to 12 midnight Thursday and for 24 hours on Friday. Zamcelco contract with TMI and Mapalad is 12 hours only but the two power suppliers will supply longer hours, he added.
The National Library of the Philippines, Information and Communications Technology Office of the Department of Science and Technology and the Zamboanga City Library will sign a memorandum of agreement on May 8 providing for the installation of Tech4ED Platform in the City Library. The project provides access points for individuals and communities to bridge the digital and education divide to information, communication, technology, non-formal education and skills training. The MOA signing will take place 10 a.m. at the City Hall conference room.
