  • Mayor Beng Climaco calls for intensified anti-narcotic operations despite threats from “very powerful and very moneyed” drug syndicates. She made the call in light of reports that the blast near the Ayala Police Station on Good Friday was drug-related.
  • City Police Director Senior Supt. Angelito Casimiro today proposed the conduct of a drug summit which will involve the local government of Zamboanga, elements of the local police force and other law enforcement agencies, and members of the community in the identification of drug users, operators and peddlers in the barangays. This, as the Zamboanga City Police Office remains committed to weed out illegal drug operations in the barangays as authorities pursue its anti-drug drive.
  • City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Elmeir Apolinario said the city government will assist farmers affected by the continuing dry spell using a part of the calamity funds per authority from the City Council through the declaration of a state of calamity. He said City Agriculturist Diosdado Palacat has been asked to submit his short and long term programs to help farmers mitigate effects of the dry spell.
  • Orientation for the first batch of Summer Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) beneficiaries is set at 1pm, April 8 (Wednesday) at the City Coliseum in Tetuan. A total of 1,400 college students comprise the first batch with working period from April 10-May 8. The city has allocated a total of 2,670 slots for this year’s SPES.
  • A total of 6 fire incidents, mostly caused by bush fires in the rural areas, were reported during the Holy Week, according to City Fire Marshall FSSupt. Dominador Zabala Jr. The number brings to a total of 44 bush fire incidents responded and recorded from January to April 5, 2015.
