Zamboanga City News Bits – July 3, 2015
- Mayor Beng Climaco on Friday addressed participants to a leadership forum dubbed as “Master of War” organized by the Armed Forces of the Philippines General Staff Collegem in Camp Crame as part of its General Staff Course where the chief executive shared her experiences on local governance. A total of 152 student-officers compose class 60 of the Command and General Staff Course Class 60, at least 13 of whom are international military students from Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia and Thailand. The course provides higher military education to selected officers with the rank of Majors and Lieutenant Colonels who are being prepared to occupy key command posts in their respective services. The leadership forum was the culmination of the Leadership and Operational Art modules of the course.
- Classes in basic education remained suspended until Friday on the account of continuing stormy weather that may pose risks to the safety and protection of school children. This, in line with Section 2 of Executive Order 66 of President Aquino and based on recommendation from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. The declaration however did not cover the higher education, as it is left at the discretion of school officials. Nevertheless, Iturralde said the safety and protection of the students should be the primordial concern.
- Members of the newly reorganized Zamboanga City Investment and Incentives Board (ZCIIB) chaired by Mayor Beng Climaco unanimously approved a resolution Friday asking ZAMCELCO to explain why it cannot implement effectively the Interruptible Load Program (ILP) despite the tax incentive that the city government has offered to participating industrial and commercial establishments.
- Dia del Alcalde, a whole array of medical, dental, civil registry and agriculture services visited barangay Guiwan on Thursday. Hundreds of less fortunate residents availed of the services that also included distribution of free eye glasses and Philhealth cards. A part of the local government’s thrust to bring mission-critical services closer to the people, the Dia de Alcalde is a conducted regularly as a continued social support program to barangays.
- The National Food Authority (NFA-9) has stepped up efforts against the alleged “fake rice” from China through massive market inspection and information campaign, even as a surprise inspection at the Main and Sta. Cruz public markets last Thursday yielded negative results. The anti-fake rice efforts will continue in other areas to ensure the safety of the consumers not only in Zamboanga City but also in other provinces such as Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga Sibugay. NFA Regional Director Camilo D. Magtrayo has also sought support and cooperation of the Grains Retailers’ Association-ZC chapter in guarding the rice industry as well as preventing proliferation of the synthetic rice. Rice commercial traders (warehousemen/millers/wholesalers) who buy, store or sell alleged “fake rice” will be held criminally liable to the authorities.
