  • Mayor Beng Climaco has sought the intervention of concerned agencies for legal and diplomatic remedies to save couple Nurie and Timhar Ong of Baliwasan and who are facing death penalty in Malaysia due to alleged violation of anti-drug laws. She personally brought the matter to Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, who immediately instructed Regional Director Hassan Gabra Jumdain, of the Office of Workers Welfare Administration, to look into possible assistance that could be provided to the jailed couple and their children left in Zamboanga. The mayor also made similar representations to Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario and the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs.

 

  • The City Government on Tuesday unveiled the newly-constructed 2-storey, four-classroom building at the Pasonanca Elementary School in line with its thrust to prioritize education. The building costs P4.78 million and is expected to minimize classroom shortage. Construction of the building was undertaken by GHR Construction Company from Dec. 17, 2014 to May 20, 2015.

 

  • Some 7,000 seedlings of mixed species will be planted during Arbor Day on Thursday, June 25 in a 3-hectare area at the Climaco Freedom Park in Abong-Abong. Thousands of Zamboangueños will flock to the Climaco Freedom Park at 7 a.m. on June 25 to join, preserve and protect the City’s natural resources in celebration of the Arbor Day na Ciudad de Zamboanga. Another highlight will be the tagging of 12 trees as century and heritage trees in consonance with Ordinance 341, otherwise known as the Century and Heritage Trees ordinance.

 

  • People representing different sectors took part in Dengue Summit 2015 on June 24 to show unity and solidarity in the fight against the mosquito-borne disease. Organized by the CHO in partnership with the DOH, the activity seeks to drum up awareness on the control and prevention of dengue. Based on CHO reports, dengue cases in January were 168 and 125 in February, very much low compared to last year’s 304 in January and 265 in February.

 

  • The Community and Family Services International (CFSI) Sub-Office Zamboanga conducted its Baseline Assessment Presentation under the Zamboanga Recovery Project (ZRP). The event was attended by different national and local government agencies, local and international NGOs and other humanitarian partners. The purpose of the presentation is to outline the results of the series of focus group discussions conducted to untagged sharers in different transitory sites as well as to strengthen and improve the referral systems of CFSI and other organizations. The outputs presented during the event are part of the Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation of CFSI.

 

  • Personnel from the City Veterinarian Office on Monday responded to a call related to a sighting of one dolphin in Manicahan on Monday, June 22. The stranded dolphin was found dead. It was a male adult spinner dolphin measuring 1.83 meters in length and 0.95 meters in diameter. At necropsy, the stomach contained many round marks, morphometry was conducted and fixation of collected tissue samples were prepared for shipment to UP IESM.

 

  • The Public Employment Service Office under the CSWDO is facilitating job interview for interested applicants from June 24-26 at the PESO in Pettit Barracks. Positions available include:
  1. Store managers, male or female not over 35 years old, any 4 year course graduate with 2 year managerial experience in retail, fast food n customer service
    2. Warehouse supervisors, not over 30 years old
    3. Store supervisors
    4. Counter supervisors
    5. Customer service supervisors
    6. HR Assistants
    7. Sales Assistants
