ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 12, 2014) – Police said four motorcycle gunmen shot and killed a village council man in an attack in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines.
Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, a regional police spokesman, said the 40-year old Sinunuc council man Armilette Aquino was killed instantly in the shooting in Maasin village.
Aquino was driving his motorcycle when the four assailants tailed him on two motorcycles and shot the official at a secluded place in the village. Huesca said the victim was heading to the dockyard of YL Fishing Company, where he also worked as a machine operator, when gunmen attacked him.
“The victim was shot twice and died on the spot,” Huesca said, adding the assailants escaped after the killing.
Policemen, who responded to the shooting, recovered the victim’s cellular phone and tablet computer, including two bullet casings of .45-caliber pistol. The motive of the killing is still unknown, but Huesca said police launched an investigation into the murder. (Mindanao Examiner)
