Zamboanga del Norte gets 6 school buildings

Chief Editor March 24, 2015

DIPOLOG CITY – The Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. has recently turned over six school buildings to the Department of Education in Zamboanga del Norte province in southern Philippines, officials said.

Officials said the school buildings will be for Rizal Elementary School in Rizal town; Piñan Elementary Central School in  the town of Piñan; Mabuhay Elementary School in Liloy town; Labason Elementary School in Labason town; San Roque Elementary School in the town of Kalawit; and Galingon National High School in Tampilisan town.

The buildings have a total of 12 classrooms.

Enrique Chua, who heads the FFCCII Welfare Committee and also a member of the board, and other officials, led the turn over ceremony recently.

“Education is the only way to prosperity. No education, no future and no work. We believed that education is the only way to prosperity. No short-cut. The hope of our fatherland is to have educated citizenry. Without education, the Philippine have no future,” he said during the ceremony attended by some 300 students of Galingon National High School.

Chua said the donation is so far the biggest charitable work of their organization. He said they had already donated more than 5,000 school buildings since the establishment FFCCII in 1969 up to this year. The FFCCII called the charitable work “Operation Barrios Schools.”

Among those who donated the school buildings were the couples Gan Tiak Kheng, Lucio Tan, Anthony Chan; Louie Lee; and Tan Ching.

Since 2013, FFCCII had donated a total of 11 school building to Zamboanga del Norte during the incumbency of Gov. Roberto Uy, who was a former president of Metro Dipolog Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc.

Uy praised Chua’s group and said he and his constituents were thankful to FFCCII and donors for the new school buildings. “As father of this province, I am thankful to FFCCII (members) who exert efforts to make this project possible,” he said.

Provincial Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Natividad Bayubay also expressed her appreciation to the Chinese businessmen for the donations.

Officials and members of the Metro Dipolog Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Ozamis Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. also witnessed the turn over ceremony. (Mindanao Examiner)
