
ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Sept. 5, 2012) – Villagers have complained about the air pollution caused by thick smoke billowing from a huge chimney of a factory in the southern Philippine port city of Zamboanga.
One resident said the factory produces asphalt and usually operates at night in the village of Boalan.
Local health inspectors have surveyed the area during day time, but it was not immediately known why the factory operates during the night.
It was not immediately known whether the Department of Environment and Natural Resources or its local counterpart inspected the factory.
Residents fear the pollution would cause respiratory and other health problems, particularly to children and those who have weak immune system. (Mindanao Examiner)
