MAYOR BENG CLIMACO has reiterated her unequivocal support to the government peace efforts in southern Philippines following a brief meeting with members of the 14th International Monitoring Team who paid a courtesy call to the local chief executive at the Zamboanga City Hall.
The head of the IMT-14 Maj. Gen. Dato Ya’cob bin Hj Samiran and his group, led by Col. Shaharuddin bin Harum, Malaysia’s Defense Attaché to Manila, also thanked Climaco and praised the mayor for her strong support to the peace efforts in Mindanao.

Also in the meeting was Brigadier General Angelito Casimiro, officer-in-charge of the Philippine National Police Directorate for Logistics. Climaco, who welcomed the IMT group, stressed that Zamboanga City is fully supportive of all peace efforts.
She even cited the long and historical and peaceful existence of Muslims, Christians and indigenous tribes here.“We live in peace and harmony in Zamboanga. We are always for peace,” she said.
IMT-14 had replaced IMT-13 which ended its tour of duty in Mindanao. The international peace keepers are tasked to monitor and oversee the ceasefire process between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front which signed an interim peace deal with Manila in 2014.
