
ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 26, 2012) – The Department of Social Welfare and Development has concluded the celebration of the 34th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week.
In Zamboanga City, the local government joined the celebration and held a skills competition participated by persons with disabilities, among other programs aimed at motivating differently abled persons.
With the theme “Mainstreaming Persons with Disabilities in Economic Development,” Assistant City Social Welfare and Development Officer Leonida Bayan, said the weeklong celebration was conceptualized to contribute and promote the full employment of persons with disabilities, and to tackle barriers and gaps, facilitate stakeholders’ cooperation, develop innovative for the economic development of person with disabilities.
It also supports human rights-based initiatives for the economic development of persons with disabilities.
“One of the highlights of the activity was the media forum with an interpreter for hearing impaired focusing on this year’s theme. Various government agencies also participated in the celebration,” she told the Mindanao Examiner.
The celebration is based on Proclamation Number 361 issued in 2000, as amended by Administrative Order Number 35 issued in 2002. (Joymarie Soler)
