ZAMBOANGA CITY – Mayor Beng Climaco has appealed to public for food and blankets for victims of a conflagration in a neighborhood that claimed the life of an elderly man in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines.

“Con todo ta apela kame ayuda para con el maga victima de quema. Si tiene vosotros ropa, comida y manta favor lleva na Pasonanca Elem(entary) School. We also pray for the 80 y.o. victim who perished. 1,000 people approximately left homeless. Favor ayuda. Gracias y bondad de Dios esta con ustedes,” she said. (We are appealing to all for victims of fire, if you have clothes, food and blanket, please bring it over at the Pasonanca Elementary School. We also pray for the 80 year-old victim who perished (in the fire). Approximately 1,000 people were left homeless. Please help. God bless you.)

Climaco rushed to the area and spoke to village officials and fire victims. The fire razed at least 100 houses at Lacaste Ville in the village of Pasonanca on Saturday afternoon that killed octogenarian Virgilio Nunez.

Police said the fire, which started in the house of Roberto Calapiz, was due to an electrical short circuit. Most of the fire victims were brought to the Pasonanca Elementary School which served as temporary shelter. (Mindanao Examiner)
