ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE – Police arrested a village official after he was allegedly caught with illegal drugs in the town of Gutalac in Zamboanga del Norte province in southern Philippines.

Police identified the arrested official as Michael Maing, 31, who is a council man in the village of Map. Maing, who was arrested September 14 in the neighboring village of Salvador, also tried to escape.

He was also caught throwing a plastic straw containing suspected shabu. Police said an informant tipped off authorities about the selling of illegal drugs by the suspect.

Police said the drugs seized from Maing was sent to the crime laboratory in Zamboanga City for examination. And if it turns out to be shabu, Maing could be stripped of his power and position and would have to face charges of violating the  Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. (Mindanao Examiner)
