ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 25, 2012) – The ongoing construction of a new central market building in Zamboanga City is expected to bring more revenues to the local government, and boasts as one of the most modern in western Mindanao, officials said Wednesday.
City Engineer Luis Vicente Despalo said the P43-million project, once completed will have 9 buildings.
“New hope awaits the people who are going to occupy the numerous stalls in this upcoming public market. Given its accessible location at the center of the city, it can definitely provide easy access to all,” he said.
The old central market buildings, located just behind the “Sunken” Garden in downtown Zamboanga, is already dilapidated and its surroundings filthy and dirty.
“In addition, the money from the rental of the market stalls will go directly to the coffers of the local government and use the revenue for the funding of other developmental projects in Zamboanga City,” Despalo told the Mindanao Examiner.
He said the new central market is expected to be completed this year. (Carlissa Horecerada)
