ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Dec. 20, 2011) – An unidentified gunman shot dead the deputy town mayor of Siay town in the southern Filipino province of Zamboanga Sibugay, police said.
Police said Carlito Bayawa was shot in the head and his wife wounded in the attack that occurred shortly before 5 p.m. in the capital town of Ipil. Bayawa was with his wife who was withdrawing money from an automated teller machine when the gunman attacked them.
Bayawa was without a body guard or security escort at the time of the attack. The assailant fled on a motorcycle driven by another man, police said.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the killing. (Mindanao Examiner)
