Zamboanga City Government News Bits April 13, 2015

  • City Police Director Angelito Casimiro has cautioned Zamboanga residents against posting or sharing on social media their location, photos of their houses and other personal details as these pose a risk to their safety in view of reports that terror groups are searching on Facebook their possible targets. “We got information from the Sulu area that they are looking at Facebook accounts of people in Zamboanga City. You are opening up your houses and family to possible trouble,” warned Casimiro. Bombing and kidnapping remain the top threats in Zamboanga City, prompting local police to appeal to residents to protect themselves by securing their information online.
  • The City Government through the City Social Welfare and Development Office has extended appropriate assistance to the children of Mila Salvador, 39, who was killed by her husband, Edilberto, in an incident that stemmed from a domestic fight last April 9 in Culianan. Mila’s 70-year old father Luis Alfonso was also killed in the incident. Aside from food assistance, the City Government also provided burial assistance for the victims and has scheduled psycho-social sessions for her four children Jay-Ar, 15; Danica, 11; Dainsan, 9; and John Bert, 1.
  • April 13, Monday is the start of DepEd’s Summer Enhancement Program across all schools in Zamboanga City. UNICEF and WMSU have been requested to focus services in the Mampang Transitory Site where 2 temporary learning spaces or TLS have been readied for operation since February. The TLS are located in the area between Mampang I and II. Additionally, Silsillah is lending UNICEF a space to be used for schooling. IRDT also lent their Child Friendly Space for the use of DepEd giving a total of 4 spaces so far for learning. There is also an ongoing construction of 2 TLSs in the area between Mampang I and II.
  • Four jeepneys will be available for students who wish to study in their original school in the city center. If you know of any child who wish to avail of the service, you can contact any of following personnel from WMSU:

– Dr. Marcy Carpizo, project officer; Princess Nandu, community organiser; and Rizalyn Ismael, community organizer. Registration of participants to the 20th Summer Learn to Play a Sports Program will only be until April 28. Interested participants can visit the City Sports Division at the grandstand during office hours.

Zambo Ecozone Chairman Christopher Arnuco and Bureau of Fire Protection Regional Director Senior Superintendent Carlito Oceña on Monday forged a memorandum of agreement for the transfer of the Talisayan Fire Sub-station from the Talisayan High School campus to the Ecozone compound in San Ramon. Mayor Climaco together with officials from Ecozone, Bureau of Fire and some barangay officials witnessed the event.
