3 kidnapped Indon fishermen freed in Sulu

Desk Editor September 16, 2018
ZAMBOANGA CITY – Abu Sayyaf militants have freed 3 Indonesian fishermen in Sulu province in southern Philippines.
The trio – Sudarlan Samansung, 41; Hamdam Salim, 34; and Subandi Sattoh, 27, were released Saturday to the group of former rebel leader Nur Misuari in Buanza village in Indanan town.
A military photo shows the freed Indonesian fishermen with Philippine and Indonesian security officials in Sulu province.
The fishermen were then handed over to provincial government officials who are members of the crisis management committee and then turned them over to the authorities.
They were kidnapped in January last year while on a fishing expedition off Tawi-Tawi province.
It was unknown how much ransom was paid to the Abu Sayyaf in exchange for the freedom of the hostages. The Abu Sayyaf also released other Indonesian hostages in the past to Misiuari.
But their release came barely 3 days after masked gunmen abducted two Indonesian fishermen off Sabah’s Semporna town. The two Indonesians were reportedly brought to Sulu’s Talipao town, according to Malaysian media reports. (Mindanao Examiner)
