ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 15, 2013) – Three people were shot in separate gun attacks on Monday in the cities of Zamboanga and Lamitan in southern Philippines, police said.
Police said a local meat trader Richard Enriquez was shot at around 7 a.m. at Santa Cruz market in the village of Tetuan.
The attacker fled after the shooting. The motive of the shooting is still unknown and police are investigating the attack.
Gunmen also shot a provincial government employee Omar Hadjatul and his wife in Isabela City in Basilan, one of five provinces under the Muslim autonomous region in Mindanao.
Hadjatul and his wife were on their way to work when shot before 8 a.m. No individual claimed responsibility for all the shootings, but gun attacks are not uncommon in Zamboanga and Basilan, where hired killers and rebels are actively operating. (Mindanao Examiner)
