ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / June 7, 2012) – Four people were killed and two others injured after gunmen opened fire on jitney in the southern Philippine town of Parang, police said Thursday.
Police said the attack killed the driver, Bisman Lukman, 27; an army soldier, Corporal Persing Mijan, 30; an old woman, Jumamum Palahuddin, 90; and another civilian, Nurhaimi Mijan, 28.
“Aside from those killed, two other passengers were also wounded in the strafing incident,” local police commander, Senior Superintendent Antonio Freyra, told the Mindanao Examiner.
He said the jeep was carrying 9 passengers when it was attacked by unidentified gunmen, but no individual or group claimed responsibility for the shooting which occurred this week in the village of Linuho.
“We are still investigating the motive of the attack. We are looking into family feud or clan war as probably motive of the attack,” Freyra said.
Clan war is not uncommon in the southern Philippines, especially among Muslim families and indigenous tribes. (Mindanao Examiner)
