
DIPOLOG CITY (Mindanao Examiner / May 9, 2013) – Unidentified gunmen opened fire on the house of a village chieftain in the southern Philippine province of Zamboanga del Norte, police said Thursday.
Police said there was no report of casualties, but the attack on the house of Ferdinand Bokingkito, the village chieftain of Danao in Salug town. The 47-year old leader and his family were unhurt in the shooting.
The attackers fled even before policemen could arrive in the area. Police investigators recovered at least 6 bullet casing fired from .45-caliber pistol.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the shooting, but dozens of cases of gun attacks in the province remain unresolved and local government officials have sought assistance from the military to put up checkpoints and roadblocks in towns and cities in Zamboanga del Norte to ensure the safety of civilians.
