MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Apr. 16, 2013) – The Philippines on Tuesday joined nations around the world in condemning the Boston Marathon bombings in the United States and sympathized with families of those killed and wounded in the attacks.
Three people, including a child, were killed and over 150 others injured in the twin blasts near the marathon finish line and no individual or group has claimed responsibility for the daring attacks that occurred despite a strict blanket of security imposed by the U.S. authorities to the annual event.
“We condemn those who dared defile this event and who have cast such a pall of loss and suffering in the city of Boston and the entire United States. The President personally conveys a message of deep sympathy, concern, and solidarity with the people of Boston, where he and his family had found refuge during martial law, and which so many Filipinos call home,” President Benigno Aquino’s Deputy Spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a statement sent to the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner.
She said the Aquino administration joins the international community in extending its sympathy to those who have lost loved ones in the bombings.
The Federal Bureau of Investigations has taken the lead in the investigation into the bombings, although no suspects have been named by authorities as behind the attacks.
The latest bombings brought fears among many Americans who are still trying to overcome the horrific 9/11 suicide attacks in the U.S. carried out by al-Qaeda militants. (Mindanao Examiner)
