MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 16, 2013) – An American diver was shot and killed during a heated altercation with a security guard of a posh subdivision in the Philippines, the Coast Guard said.
The Coast Guard said Captain Matthew Caldwell, a technical diver and member of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, was killed on Thursday night in Las Piñas City.
“Caldwell was shot dead around 10:30 p.m. of Thursday after having altercation with one of the duty guards of Hamilton Heights Subdivision where he lives,” it said in a statement.
It said Caldwell was among those who helped search for the wreckage of Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo’s plane that crashed at sea in the Philippines two years ago.
“The Philippine Coast Guard sympathized and condemns the killing of the famous American technical diver who is a member of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary,” it said. (Mindanao Examiner)
