Bong Go to champion fisheries industry, vows to strengthen PH competitiveness

Desk Editor November 24, 2018

FORMER SPECIAL Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go assured the Fisheries Industry group that he will champion the the needs of their industry in the Senate if elected. He vowed to push for measures to strengthen the nation’s competitiveness, thus being their voice.

“I will make sure you will have a voice. Ako ang inyong tulay sa Pangulo (at sa gobyerno),” Go said. “Mas palalakasin pa natin ang inyong boses sa gobyerno dahil alam ko ang kahalagahan ng inyong sektor sa paglikha ng trabaho at hanapbuhay para sa napakaraming Pilipino.”
Go graced a gathering of the Inter-Island Deep Sea Fishing Association at the Diamond Hotel in Manila on November 22. And as a candidate for senator of the Duterte administration, Go vowed to support the programs of the President and to implement his plans to uplift the lives of Filipinos particularly those in the agriculture and fisheries sector.
“During his third State of the Nation Address, Tatay Digong declared the protection of the environment as a top priority of this government,” Go reminded the members of the association. “Just December last year, the President commissioned the newly-acquired floating assets of the DA-BFAR that will operate in offshore areas and high seas to combat poaching, unreported and unregulated fishing,” he added and reiterated his commitment to protect poor fishermen.
Go also cited the Department of Agriculture’s proposal to the President to build two multi-mission vessels each year starting 2019 so that by the end of his term, the DA would have more vessels safeguarding the country’s fishing grounds.
For his part, Go vowed that he would always take into consideration the concerns of the fishing sector in creating bills and reviewing laws. “I will make sure your concerns will be heard in the Senate,” Go said.
He then shared his legislative agenda focused on making government services more accessible to all Filipinos. Go’s advocacy include healthcare, housing, education, agriculture, fire safety, localized peace talks, sports development, OFW welfare, and the continued campaign against corruption, illegal drugs and crimes.
Go encouraged the members of the fisheries industry to continue supporting the programs of the president and to take part in the fight against illegal drugs, corruption and criminality to make the country a better place for the next generation.  “Mas palalakasin ko din ang kampanya ng gobyerno laban sa krimen, korupsyon at droga para masiguro ang katiwasayan sa bansa na siyang tunay na susi sa mas malagong ekonomiya. Para magawa ang lahat ng ito, kailangan ko ang tulong ninyo,” Go said. (Jun Ledesma)
