IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) recently awarded P500,000.00 worth of livelihood support to the Punawan Farmers Association, strengthening their lapu-lapu (Grouper) fish cage farming enterprise in Mabuhay town.

Funded under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP), the project reflects DOLE’s commitment to investing in rural communities and promoting sustainable economic opportunities.

Rey Palis, president of the 30-member association, expressed his gratitude for the support provided to strengthen their livelihood project.

“This livelihood support will help improve our fish farming and secure a better income for our families,” he said.

The project seeks to enhance sustainable aquaculture practices while improving the economic resilience of the group’s farming and fishing communities.

The livelihood support included a comprehensive package of tools, equipment, and raw materials designed to enhance productivity and income potential.

Elamsalih Ungad, provincial director of DOLE Zamboanga Sibugay, encouraged the beneficiaries to view the project as a catalyst for community transformation, emphasizing that livelihood support requires commitment, responsibility, and a shared vision for progress.

The local government of Mabuhay, through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO), along with the Buug Multi-Purpose Cooperative, provided crucial support in making the project a reality.

DOLE also guided the association in managing the livelihood grant, covering the DILP, occupational safety, and financial literacy, while stressing transparency, teamwork, and sustainability for success. (Rommel Ignacio)
