MANILA – The embattled Philippine police chief Alan Purisima has appealed to the journalists to be fair, objective and factual in their report following a television report on his wealth and properties and even his close friendship with President Aquino.

Just recently, Purisima allowed a group of journalists to inspect his house – in the interest of transparency – in the town of San Leonardo town in Nueva Ecija province outside Manila. The television report aired by ABS-CBN triggered a full-dress senate inquiry led by Senator Grace Poe.

Although Purisima was not in his house during the so-called media tour of the property, his spokesman Superintendent Wilben Mayor accompanied the journalists who inspected the house which sits on a four-hectare property.

“As reporters could see, this property is no mansion by any standard. It is an ordinary house, as ordinary as the other concrete houses that you would see in the neighbourhood. By inviting the media, it is my hope that some questions related to my property would be put to rest,” Purisima said in a statement.

He said his house is just worth a little above P3 million and not P50 million as what the media reported. And that all his properties and other assets are properly reported.

President Aquino said he fully trust Purisima, who was a former aide of his mother, President Corazon Aquino. (Mindanao Examiner)
