ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Mar. 4, 2014) – A lone assailant has shot dead Tuesday a man in downtown Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, police said.
Police said the victim, Ismael Unga, just came from Sulu province by boat and was walking along Rizal Street when the gunman attacked him.
Unga was shot several times by the assailant who fled on foot after the killing. A policeman who was passing near the area spotted the assailant and pursued the gunman, but failed to catch up with him in the village of Santa Barbara.
The motive of the attack was unknown and no individual claimed responsibility for the killing. Gun attacks and killings are almost a daily occurrence in Zamboanga where hired killers actively operate. (Mindanao Examiner)
