PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / May 4, 2013) – The Philippine Amy said it has deployed hundreds of troops in Lanao del Sur province to ensure peaceful elections ahead of local and national polls next week.

Brig. Gen. Daniel Lucero, commander of the 1st Infantry Division, said one battalion of soldiers under Lt. Col. Cornelio Arboleda were to augment the 103rd Infantry Brigade based in Marawi City.

“The deployment of additional troops in Lanao del Sur will help boost the number of government forces maintaining peace and security in the province.
The troops will render poll duty effective May 4 to May 15 or depending upon the outcome of the elections in the province that is included in the election hot-spot list of the Commission on Elections,” he said.

Lucero told the soldiers to stay apolitical and ensure peaceful conduct of honest elections. (Mindanao Examiner)
