ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / May 18, 2014) – Police said a prime suspect in the killing of a man in Zamboanga City has surrendered peacefully to the authorities, officials said Sunday.

Officials said Hussin Batalan, a resident of Mabuhay town in Zamboanga Sibugay province, surrendered to Chief Inspector Felix Martinez. He was accompanied by a man identified as Hassan Albani.

Batalan has allegedly admitted to the killing of Adjan Gadjali, who was previously identified in news reports as Andan Gadjalie.

Officials said Gadjali, who was shot May 16 in Canelar village, was also a resident of Mabuhay town.

“Suspect was accompanied by Hassan Sabban Albani (and) appeared to the Zamboanga City Police Office and voluntary surrendered himself to Police Chief Inspector Felix Bitong Martinez Jr. and further claimed that he shot and killed the person of Adjan J. Gadjali. Suspect now detained at the detention cell of this office while charges is being prepared,” said a report released to the press by Inspector Dahlan Samuddin, a regional police spokesman.

Police are investigating the motive of the killing. But other reports said Gadjali allegedly raped the wife of Batalan in Mabuhay town and was likely the motive for the attack.

Gadjali was shot in the head while eating at a roadside restaurant. (Mindanao Examiner)
