PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Apr. 26, 2013) – Gunmen ambushed a political convoy and killed at least a dozen people in what authorities said was linked to a long time feud between two warring Muslim clans in southern Philippines.

Brigadier General Daniel Lucero, commander of the 1st Infantry Division, said among those killed was Adnanie Manamparan , daughter of Mayor Abdulmalik Manamparan, of Lanao del Norte’s Nunungan town.

He said the politician was among eight people also wounded in the attack that occurred late Thursday in the village of Malaig where they campaigned.

Manamparan, now on his last term, is running for vice mayor in the town with his son as mayor.

No individual or group claimed responsibility for the attack, but Lucero said he deployed more troops in the province to hunt down the ambushers.

“Army units Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur were ordered to take pre-emptive measures to prevent the escalation of hostilities. We have deployed troops to track down the ambushers. Rido ang most likely na motibo nito dahil Matagal ng away sa pamilya ang pinagmulan niyan at patuloy naman yun imbestigasyon ng mga awtoridad sa naganap. May SITG na rin o Special Investigation Task Group na ginawa ang police authorities in connection with this incident,” he told the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner.

Just recently, New People’s Army also attacked the political convoy of Gingoog City Mayor Ruthie Guingona and killed her two supporters in northern Mindanao. (Mindanao Examiner)
