Rice smuggling pinatutukan sa Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Nanawagan si Zamboanga City Mayor Maria Isabelle Salazar sa
Bureau of Customs na paigtingin ang kampanya laban sa rice smuggling matapos na mabalitaanang walang humpay ang pasok ng mga bigas dito.

Malaki umano ang epekto ng smuggling sa mga local rice farmers dahil apektado ang bentahan ng palay sa Zamboanga City.

Nabatid na galing umano ang mga bigas mula sa Malaysia at ipinapasok sa bansa.

“This is not good because they (smugglers) do not pay the necessary taxes to the government. And we are calling the attention of the Customs to prevent the entry of smuggled rice or collect taxes from the smugglers,” ani Salazar.

Inihalintulad pa ni Salazar ang mga smugglers sa peste sa sakahan dahil sa kanilang ilegal na gawain. “They are eating up the city’s economy. Nalulugi yun mga farmers natin sa tuwing papasok ang mga smuggled rice dahil mas mababa ang bentahan nito kung ihahambing sa mga commercial rice sapagkat hindi sila nagbabayad ng buwis,” wika pa ni Salazar.

Kabilang sa mga programa ni Salazar ang pagtibayin ang agrikultura sa Zamboanga upang masigurong may sapat na supply ng bigas dito at hindi umasa sa pagaangkat ng mga ito mula sa ibang bansa. (Mindanao Examiner)
