ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 11, 2014) – Thousands of people have joined an international peace march on Monday in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines in an effort to promote peace and compassion to the world.

The march, organized by the Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light headed by its chairman Man Hee Lee, a South Korean war veteran turned peace advocate; and Nam Hee Kim, of the International Women’s Peace Group, and the local government of Zamboanga, and Western Mindanao State University, drew various civil and religious groups and students and Muslim and Christian residents.

They marched from City Hall in downtown Zamboanga to the Paseo del Mar park, about a kilometer away where the organizers and Mayor Maria Isabelle Salazar signed a peace covenant.

Joon Park, the organizer’s media liaison, said the event “focused  on fostering a culture of peace both within communities and internationally with a hope of bringing about the cessation of war.”

“As an advocate of peace, Chairman Mr. Man Hee Lee, has been making peace trips all around the world and endeavoring to bear substantive fruitions of peace despite his old age.”

“Last time, during the Mindanao Peace Agreement, Chairman Lee was the driving force that brought the 40 year religious dispute between the Islam and Catholic to an end. And this time, he has made his trip to the Philippines once again,” he said.

The Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light is a non-profit, non-governmental international organization registered under the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and operating out of Seoul, South Korea. It aims to create positive and lasting change internationally through uniting communities around the world and supports the development of communities through cultural, volunteer, and youth activities.
