PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 13, 2014) – Four people, including a trade official, had been injured when the vehicle they were riding over turned during a heavy rain and landed in a canal in the southern Philippine province of Zamboanga del Sur, police said Sunday.

Police said the injured were employees of the Department of Trade and Industry, including its provincial director in Zamboanga del Sur, Maria Socorro Atay. The others were identified as Crisvil Sarsalejo and Judith Guatno and their driver Maynard Fernandez.

The four were travelling from Zamboanga City to Pagadian City when the accident occurred at Sitio Tiniguiban in the town of Kumalarang.

Zamboanga del Sur police chief, Senior Superintendent Sofronio Ecaldre said local policemen immediately rescued the injured and brought them to the hospital.

“It was raining hard and the road was very slippery and the accident happened,” Atay said. (Jong Cadion and Ely Dumaboc)
